African leaders to discuss Libya issue in Ethiopian capital

APA Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) Leaders from Congo Brazzaville, Malawi, Mauritania and South Africa are expected to start consultation late on Wednesday in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on the current situation in Libya within the framework of the extraordinary session of the Assembly of heads of states and government the the African Union (AU) Commission called over the weekend.

 

Accordingly, the leaders will discuss issues related with the proposal made by the AU, which demands immediate ceasefire between the rebels and the Libyan government.

 

Wednesday’s extraordinary session in Addis Ababa, will review progress made since the establishment of the Ad hoc committee and latest progresses.

 

The AU established an Ad hoc committee comprising these countries to find a peaceful solution to the current problem in Libya.

 

Following the establishment of this Committee, leaders from these countries have visited Libya last month and discuss with the Libyan leaders and rebels.

 

The leaders will continue their closed session on Thursday where they are expected to make recommendation regarding the current situation in Libya.

 

“The session is also expected to review the situation in Libya, on the basis of the work being carried out by the AU High-level ad hoc Committee on Libya,” said the AU.
