Zimbabwe, which is taking part in the exhibition for the first time, is represented by painter Berry Bickle, visual artist Misheck Masamvu, photographer Calvin Dondo and sculptor Tapfuma Gutsa.

Zimbabwe’s participation at the Venice exhibition was sponsored by the British Council whose director Jill Coates described the presence of the four artists as a “cultural coming of age”.

The British Council is the key sponsor of the Zimbabwe Pavilion at the exhibition, which is located at the Church of Santa Maria della Pieta in Venice.

The pavilion was officially opened on Friday by Zimbabwe’s ambassador
