Military task force kills 11 Islamic militants in Northern Nigeria

APA, Abuja (Nigeria), The Military Task Force on Operation Restore Order on Saturday claimed to have killed 11 suspected Boko Haram militants after a gun battle in Maiduguri, capital of embattled Borno State in north-east Nigeria.

The spokesman of the Task Force Colonel Victor Ebhaleme said in Maiduguri on Sunday that the militants had used an Improvised Explosives Devise (IED) to attack a patrol team of the Task Force in Kalari, near London-Ciki, in Borno State.

“At about 7.20pm a patrol team of the Task Force was attacked at Kalari, London- Ciki with Improvised Explosive Devise (IED) and several gun shots which came from a bus parked at a building,'' he said.

Ebhaleme pointed out that the Task Force successfully repelled the attacks and shot dead 11 suspected militants during a gun dual.

“The attack was successfully repelled by the Task Force and 11 suspected members of the militant group were killed.

“Two members of the Task Force were injured, while nearby buildings and some vehicles were damaged by the IED,'' he said.

Ebhaleme said that the Task Force was aware that some members of the public had prior knowledge of attacks on security agents but willingly allowed their premises to be used for such attacks.

“The public is again reminded of the implication of collaborating as it will be dealt with appropriately,'' he warned.

Ebhaleme said also that another explosive targeted at security agents exploded around Ramat Square in Maiduguri on Sunday without any casualties.

“Some of the items have been recovered by the Task Force and investigations are ongoing. No casualty was recorded,'' he said.
